What is poetry?

Piedad Bassiti: Poetry describes an emotion with as little words as possible, in a way that makes no sense but leaves you breathless.

Fannie Collingwood: Poetry is expressing your feelings in one short piece of writing. Rhymes is a type of poetry where the ending word in some lines rhymes in a pattern (e.g. style ABAB). You judge a poem by how passionate it is and how it conveys those emotions to other people. If you feel something when you read the poem, like understanding or sadness, it's a good poem. Lavelle Viveiros: Robert Frost said that poetry is what gets lost in translation.W. H. Auden called it "memorable speech.""Imaginary garden with real toads" --Marianne MooreJudging it is relative. What is good poetry for x is not for y, vice versa. You never know for sure....Show more

Lino Cawthor! ne: â€"noun1. the art of rhythmical composition, written or spoken, for exciting pleasure by beautiful, imaginative, or elevated thoughts.2. literary work in metrical form; verse.3. prose with poetic qualities.4. poetic qualities however manifested: the poetry of simple acts and things.5. poetic spirit or feeling: The pianist played the prelude with poetry.6. something suggestive of or likened to poetry: the pure poetry of a beautiful view on a clear day....Show more

Demetrius Coaster: they define poetry as not prose. Pretty vague. It leaves the options for poetry open, free verse, or it can rhyme. There is no real set of perameters open for how to write a poem. But one thing poetry has is a form of rhythm, when said or read, that is set to reflect mood within the poem itself.

Carlee Tangaro: difficult problem. lookup on the search engines. it might help!
