Why are so many posting questions in Words & Wordplay that are...?

Azalee Ahrendes: Either they're not paying attention - as you suggest - or they don't know what "wordplay" means, and see it as some kind of catch-all category. As to not being cognizant of their Internet environment, what about the fact that so many questions are posted that could *easily* be answered with a simple Google search?

Fritz Sisomphou: For the simple reason that those 'brilliant' dummies don't read and are usually lowbies.lowbies - low score newbiesnewbies - low score idiots.

Filiberto Amauty: @ CCYes, now that makes perfect sense, they're befuddled by the word "wordplay" and only see "Words" so, they post their wordy (pun intended), off-topic question here.

Herpes? Type 1 ? Type 2 ? Help!!!?

Herpes? Type 1 ? Type 2 ? Help!!!?

answers 0:Hello,I recently discovered I have outbreaks. Long time ago I was a dental assistant and I poked my self with infected needle. The patient chart said she is positive for herpes. I got really scared and that was the day when I quit my job. The partners I have been with, none of them were positive. I was poked with that needle back in 2002, and I was blood tested the following year, and it was positive, but never had outbreaks. Six years later, I just got my first outbreak, but when tested, it was negative.I don't know what is going on with me. I never said to a partner I have it because I have never had outbreaks, and now when I have it, I broke up with my boyfriend, because dont want to get him infected or him to know I am. My questions is, is it possible to date when positive with genital herpes? Can I have normal life, husband and ki! ds? I am crying every single day, what am I going to do with my life? Can I be in relationship with someone who isn't positive, and still have normal sex life without a condom?Any help would be appreciated. I decided to check it out with my fingers, and it did feel a lot tighter, but besides that nothing really felt wrong.. Today I decided to check it out again because I can feel the pressure of the tampon.. Almost immediately after inserting my fingers to check it out, I noticed the bulge of my uterus.. Normally I would have to stick my fingers way far up in order to feel it.. but it's only like 3-! 4 inches in.. I've NEVER noticed this problem at all, nor have I even heard of it.. Should I quit wearing tampons? What could be wrong? Should I make a doctors appointment immediately? 🙁answers 11:4answers 12:1.false.u start out with hiv then it progresses to aids.2. any type infection can invade the body, but it is much more severe for people with weak immune systems. hope this helps.answers 13:HIV ( Human immunodeficiency virus) is a disease that detroys the immune system, causing AIDS (Acquired immune deficiency syndrome) so yes, if you have AIDS your are infected with HIV. HIV comes first. Thats what you actually catch from another peson. Not AIDS. So the answer to number one is FALSE.Number two is true. Opportunistic Infections mostly effect a compromised immune system. there is an "opportunity" for the pathogen to infect.answers 14:First of all, have you ever been tested for herpes? It seems awfully silly for you to jump to a conclusion like this if you have never ! been tested. If you haven't been tested, I would definitely start there! . And secondly, herpes is NOT passed through blood. It is NOT a blood disease like HIV, it is a skin disease. It is passed by DIRECT skin to skin contact. So, if you had gloves on (even if you poked yourself) you should be fine! People with herpes are even allowed to donate blood (I have). If it was a blood disease they would NOT be allowed to donate blood. People who don't have herpes will tell someone it's a big deal. But, I can tell you from having the virus for 8 years now, it's NOT a big deal. Herpes is EXTREMELY common. It's estimated about 1 in 4 women have genital herpes, while 1 in 5 men have it. And, about 75 - 80% of the WORLD has cold sores (oral herpes). I've dated a few guys over the years and not one of them chose not to date me because I have genital herpes (I even met and dated a guy who also had the virus). None of them ran away screaming or anything, including my current fiance. Of course they were concerned about getting the virus from me but we took ev! ery precaution we could and none of them ever got the virus from me except my fiance (boyfriend at the time). I was with one ex for almost 4 years and he never got the virus from me! So, it's definitely possible to not spread the virus. But, if a person has sex with someone who has genital herpes or any other STD there is ALWAYS going to be a chance they can contract it from them.Condoms ONLY cover the penis and not the entire genital area. Herpes can be spread by DIRECT skin to skin contact. So, just the rubbing back and forth of the genital skin during sex is enough to spread the virus. Condoms HELP prevent the spread of the virus, you taking antiviral medication HELPS, and not having sex or doing anything sexual while you are on an outbreak can HELP prevent spreading the virus, but nothing is truly 100% effective except for abstinence. Also, millions of people have genital herpes and they have perfectly fine, beautiful babies!Genital herpes is VERY RARELY spread by birth.! In fact, less than 0.1% of babies born in the United States each year ! get neonatal herpes. If a woman with genital herpes is having an outbreak at the time of delivery, she'll more than likely have a C-section delivery to prevent the baby from contracting the virus. If the woman is NOT having an outbreak then it is perfectly fine to have a normal vaginal birth. Of course it's always important to talk to your doctor about this when the time comes.Babies are most at risk for neonatal herpes if the mother contracts genital herpes late in pregnancy. This is because a newly infected mother does not have antibodies against the virus, so there is no natural protection for the baby during birth. In addition, a new herpes infection is frequently active, so there is an increased possibility the virus will be present in the birth canal during delivery.Women who acquire genital herpes before they become pregnant have a very low risk of transmitting the virus to their babies. This is because their immune systems make antibodies that are temporarily passed! to the baby through the placenta. Even if herpes is active in the birth canal during delivery, the antibodies help protect the baby. In addition, if a mother knows she has genital herpes, her doctor or midwife can take steps to protect the baby. http://www.ashastd.org/herpes/herpes_learn_pregnan...Good luck to you!...

teaching myself guitar?

Ezekiel Kadner: Their are good online sites available. Check this site which I suggest strongly. It covers A to Z, riff, chords etc... and you have the assistance of video as well.http://www.freeguitarvideos.com/lessons.htmlI started teaching myself but in my era, internet or free stuff wasn't avaailable so I had to work harder to reach my goal. Eventually, I auditioned and later taught at berklee. So everything is possible and ALL this, without any schooling. I learnt to read, write and arrange by myself through books.Start with simple chords and when you know them, learn the scales that go with them. If you ever want to solo and create leads or riffs, at least you will know what scale goes with what cords.Learn your major scales because they will help you when you want to elarn minor scales since they both relate to each other....Show more

Rose Krouse: I'm like you, I taught myself to play guitar, but I had some background in music theory which made things much eas! ier and to pick up on how to play songs. Get use to basic chords like G, Em, D, C, etc. Once you get the hang of it you can branch out in bar chords and power chords. Just take your time and be patient. This is a great Tabs site which teaches you different songs in different genres.http://www.songsterr.com/...Show more

How do I pay for study abroad?

Jinny Dronen: You & your parents have to come up with the money. As a student, you cannot borrow in your country of citizenship since you are going abroad to school. You cannot borrow where you go to school because you have no income, no assets, no credit history, and no way to remain in that country. Student visas are temporary non-immigration visas.

Have you wished that you were in regular education instead of special education?

Claude Gloden: hmmm, firstly, state legislation are special related to state checks. i do know in california principally, detailed ed pupils do NOT ought to go the CAHSEE to graduate. hm, for my part, i dont aid mainstreaming and/or inclusive colleges, considering that i believe neither celebration advantages from this. in each circumstances, pupils are placed into common school rooms. granted, a few of them will position larger in the ones enviornments. nevertheless, such a lot is not going to. detailed schooling pupils require extra concentration from the academics, and this disrupts schooling for the leisure of the category. common pupils is probably not accurately taught, given that the instructor could have an excessive amount of of her time committed to at least one or 2 pupils. in the meantime, the detailed schooling scholar additionally calls for any person with advantage of detailed schooling, and such a lot common lecturers shouldn't have this. as a result, the ! detailed ed scholar will nonetheless no longer be getting the concentration he calls for. total, i believe that for the ones detailed schooling pupils who're unbiased, comparable to the ones with studying disabilities, i aid mainstreaming and inclusion for them. nevertheless, self contained school rooms is a well resolution, exceptionally for many who are emotionally/mentally retarded and require extra care. the ones pupils could handiest disrupt the leisure of the category, each in mainstream and inclusive colleges, and make it a lose difficulty....Show more

Imogene Neiswander: I had been in special education since the age of 5. At one point, I wished I was not. But then when I enrolled in an honors government class during high school (my disabilities were in math), I realized my new peers really weren't that 'smart'. They could only walk around saying they were smart. Because I started attending my own IEP meetings when I was 15, I actually was more advanced in gove! rnment policy language than they--or our 'honors' instructor. ! While you can sign yourself out of special education at age 18, I seriously encourage you to think about your future. Because special education was designed so the schools have to provide all students with a quality high school education, what are you then going to do when you are signed out of special ed--if you still do not have a high school diploma? The special education program legally requires the schools to provide resources and training, including individually-tailored curriculum's, to eligible students. It provides the tools to help learn and help earn the high school diploma. And this learning is what opens up employment and other opportunities for a living wage. Many jobs expect you will at least have a high school diploma--otherwise they do not even look at you. Years down the road, none of your peers are going to care you were ever in special ed. But it will be a big deal if you lack a high school diploma because of having exited special education. If you canno! t learn the exact same way as other people once you are out of special education, you will get flunked. That is what will concern other people. including employers They will think that having left the resources able to provide a high school education is what would be stupid.I am very grateful I obtained my high school diploma. I was more concerned with obtaining my quality education than what others thought of me....Show more

Pamela Meno: Once you leave the corrupt K-12 school system in the US, you are free! It's more of a prison sentence without parole!

Vickie Clampett: I don't think other people's fears about what you "might" do, and the fact you have been in special ed. for a long time are valid excuses.I don't know what behaviors you speak of but the school should be providing a Behavior Specialist to work with you no matter what classes you are in.Maybe if you are happier in your placement the behaviors will diminish.I am sure your parents think they are ! doing the best thing for you. Help with quotations and punctuation?

Cortez Badolato: I think it depends on what country you live in. In the United States, the punctuation goes before the quotes if it is a period or a comma, but doesn't necessarily have to if it's a question mark or an exclamation point, and it never goes before the quotation marks if it is a colon or semicolon. In the UK, I think periods and commas go after the quotation marks.

Billie Bratchett: No; it rather is incorrect. The citation marks must be interior the era. it is going to be: i can not think of what some person ought to do on the day that the worldwide is "ending". the explanation for that's considering the fact which you at the instant are not quoting an entire sentence; you're quoting a single observe. undergo in concepts that regardless of is interior the citation mark is quoted. subsequently, you're purely quoting the information "ending", no longer which includes the era, consequently the era must be on the exterior of the citation marks. i'm hoping th! is extremely is clever. Edit: i'm American, no longer British. Edit #2: @Salt and Peppy: it is not what my English professor advised me. (:...Show more

What are the advantages and disadvantages of relying fully on the free private market?

Lia Argall: I'm not sure I understand your question. What you listed are traditionally socialistic services paid for through taxes. When you desire services from the private market, you will find a large range of the quality of the service, the cost of the service, and the reliability of the service. For instance, take street lighting. When you say free market, do you suggest, everyone buys their own street light? That would further increase crime in poor neighborhoods where they cannot afford the expense. The same negative fits for the others too, education, fire services, and health care all will be substandard or totally absent in poor neighborhoods. The private market does increase opportunity for those who can afford it however. Private schools are do have better programming, and expensive private health insurance will pay for more services. Also, privatization, spurs competition, which reduces cost and improves efficiency. Anything done by the government i! s nearly always expensive and inefficient. Private companies can also go out of business, in which case the community would either have to buy them, or go without servicesFrom your list, I believe health care is the most free market aspect of our society (for now) and probably fire service or street lighting is the most socialized. ...Show more

Russia's education system?

Jerald Florence: K-11 is the standard school form and college or university afterward. Academically the standards are much higher in Russia, sometimes as much as 2-3 years advanced that American kids in the same age group. Advanced mathematics, sciences and foreign languages are introduced by 6th grade or near to it.Socially there is nowhere near the emphasis on sports and extra activities. School is primarily for academic learning. The good news is that there are afterschool academies for almost everything from math to literature, and everything in between. Kids there like to learn and its not "cool" to be stupid. It will be a jolt to your system, but if you can rise to the challenge, you'll do so much better at your own school when you return home.I'd suggest you visit http://russianreport.wordpress.com to learn more about life in Russia....Show more

Joeann Hoyt: People put great emphasis on education and often try harder than many of there western peers (in gener! al). The system itself is much more well developed.

Cody Petrulis: Since I don't live there anymore, I only rely on what my friends tell me or what Russian media showsIt is better academically. But it also worse socially.Education in Soviet era Russia was in no comparison with American-much much better.

Rodolfo Merel: Russian education is stronger and higher. From the start of 1st grade and 6th the kids already are doing algebra, school also is k-11.And the knowledge that they are receiving is collage stander-ed.

Vince Delarge: Higher education is still of a very high standard, but surely depending on a University. If it's MGU - the reputation is impeccable.Secondary education is going down to American standards.I think in a few years it will pull down the higher education as well.

Questions to ask when looking for a Preschool?

Tijuana Tatsak: 1) are you allowed to drop in anytime (if the answer is no-that a red flag2) Is their plenty of room for kids to play? Is it safe? Is the outdoor play ground fenced in?3) What's the discipline policy? Make sure you are ok with it.4) How long have the teachers worked there. Are they CPR and first aide certified?5) Do they give nutritious snacks?6) They should be learning mostly by playing and not really doing many worksheets7) do the teachers seem to really love their job? do they get down to the child's level and talk to them and try to make them feel comfortable?Drop in on the preschools you are thinking about and look around at the kids-are they happy and having fun? Look at how the teachers are interacting with the kids. Good luck!...Show more

preschool and my sons food allergies HELP!?

Dallas Bartolini: Maybe a headache? My child did that the other day but I've changed her routine with daycare. She's been getting up crying and walking around. Don't try to make too much sense of it. Talk to your pediatrician cause maybe somethings going on like an ear infection.. Good luck!

Tana Dumoulin: Something similar to your story has happened to me before. Is your child tugging at the ears? It could be an ear infection.

Kenneth Blacker: that really sucks my son can't have RED DIE it sucks, so many things he can't have but you have it harder then me . I'd try for a small preschool and make sure they know the less kids there is the more focus on your son and less confusion. if you drive him make sure you check for a substitute and make sure they know as well . sit with the teachers and explain it to them . sit with the person who serves food and explain it to them and make sure its in there paper work as well they are the ones serving him . allot o! f preschools wont allow peanuts at all or peanut butter ask . make sure its on his paper work at school . make sure they all know what to do if he does get ahold of something and what to watch out for . every one even the kids in my sons first grade class knows about my sons allergy LOL . and on treat day he knows what he cant have . I'm crazy if it could really hurt my kid bad I may tape a note to his desk on his folder some where permanent that they can read to remind them that he is with my contact #'s and I say never hesitate to call and if his reactions are that bad tell them not to hesitate to call 911 if he accidentally gets some and stars swelling up or something . you are going to have to get use to it when he gos to school any way if you want the truth . just make sure you get a good teacher and school what ever you do.send lunch (if they eat it there) Give the teacher back up treats so when the other kids have treats your son will have some as well . GOOD ! LUCK...Show more

Heidi Creselious: it sounds like a nigh! t terror.. some children get them almost everynight. they seem to be up but are usually still asleep. i used to baby sit a little boy who had them, and he would stand in his room and scream at the top of his lungs, nothing would calm him down for about an hour!

Ramona Pago: My son and daughter go to the same preschool. At the beginning of the year, there were tons of flyers regarding my son's classmate and her severe allergies. We were given a list of snacks that we could provide for the children, and the teachers were all aware of what she could not have. Generally preschool is only a couple of hours a day. They usually clean th toys daily with alcohol - and you could tell the other parents not to give their chil peanut butter on school days. Nobody raised a fuss, it takes a village and I am sure that no one would want your child to get sick, but she has a right to be socialized before school, too....Show more

Sammy Tabatt: Couple of idea's.. sick, headace, tire! d,nightmares maybe even she might have nigh-terrors!

Jesse Pirieda: I'm careful to give him only soft foods because he choked on steak one of the last times. His favorite his mac & cheese, but he swallows all the noodles whole. I know he can chew because he'll do it occassionally, and will chew on his sleeves.

Emerita Sciandra: Someone said I might have turned into a big scary monster to him cuz I might have done something to him?? I've never done anything to him...never hit him or nothing...only raise my voice slightly when he goes to reach for something that he shouldn't...but i never do anything mean to him. And the same person suggested hallucinations? He was in his crib, started screaming like hell and crying. I picked him up and brought him to bed with me to try to calm him down and it didn't work. Even when he was completely awake and walking around (with direction), he would calm down and then start crying and screaming and throwing himself on the floor! again. Yes, this is the first time. And he just went to the doctor earl! ier that day with a clean bill of health. I'm not sure what the hell happened. he's playing and wide awake now...i'm going to try again to put him back to bed...Show more

Mayola Sylva: Its sounds like he is having a night terror. When a child has one of these they have no idea what is going on because they are not completely awake. The best thing to do is just lead him quietly back to bed. The more you try to stimulate him by talking with him or touching him it can make it worse. I would talk to his pediatrician about it and get some tips on how you can deal with this.

Linwood Mccory: Both answers already given are great. When entering into any type of dacare or school, filling out the medical card is a must. Care facilities that I have been to are very accomodating to food and drug allergies, because they are very common. Schools as well, do the medical card and the nurse will have it and the teacher will also be advised. ALot of places are cutting out ! peanut products all together due to so many with peanut allergies.

Roxane Leathers: Be very careful and make sure that the school understands the severity. I sent my son to preschool, he is allergic to dairy... not just lactose intolerant, seriously allergic to dairy and the school had no clue. They would let him eat cheese and other things because he told them that we let him have it. The problem was that we would buy soy products and he knew this. I always made sure that he had a substitute snack and drink because I never knew what would be for snack, and often that did not even help. Luckily his allergy is not fatal. I would get something in writing from the doctor as well as a list of foods that your child cannot have and what should be done if something is accidentally ingested. Good Luck. I know it can be scary, but if you have teachers that understand and are willing to work with you, it will be a good experience for your child....Show more

Cortez! Badolato: Ahh. I live in Nashville (: I don't use it for my own child ! but my friend has a child that goes to the Vanderbuild Pre-School. She loves it.The rest of my friends mostly send their children to the Brook Hollow Baptist Church Pre-SchoolNeither of these are on the South side of Nashville though, so it may be out of your way.Christ Church, has an indoor playground we go to every week.. has a Pre-School. I've never spoken to anyone there, we just go to play, but I have peeked in all the rooms and they look really cute and well rounded.http://www.christchurchnashville.org/playground.ht...That's the website for the church.. I don't know much about this situation as my son stays home.. I wish you the best!BTW - Everyone says that Brentwood schools were ranked the best in the Nation so I would look there before Nashville....Show more

Wilburn Denice: There aren't preschools specifically for kids with food allergies, but that doesn't mean he can't go.There was a little boy in my son's class who had a severe peanut allergy, and they put ! a sign up at the door asking that we not bring in products with peanuts. Even for holiday parties, almost all the parents asked what would and would not be okay, so he was able to participate. The school didn't prepare food that would trigger an allergic reaction. Keep in mind how often the kids will wash their hands. That alone would drastically reduce the chance he'd pick up peanut residue on toys. If you're concerned they're coming in after having peanut butter toast, ask that the teacher have them wash hands upon arrival. Because your son is allergic to eggs and dairy products as well, you may need or want to pack his snacks and lunches. Whenever he starts school or is away from you, your son needs to be able to tell people what he is allergic to, and ask if the food put in front of him contains those ingredients. Inform the school about his severe allergies, provide his pediatrician's or allergist's phone numbers, and an epi pen just in case. If you first look i! nto a preschool that won't make allowances or take serious steps to ens! ure your son's safety, find another one. I think most of them will....Show more

Mahalia Brindle: He probably had a nightmare you did something to him, e.g. you turned into a big scary monster (trust me, young children's dreams are very strange), and he can't tell the difference between his dream and reality. Turn all the lights on in your house, which will calm him down, and maybe turn on some music he likes, because silence is scary for two year olds. Don't worry, he'll probably get over it. If he doesn't soon (45 minutes really is a long time, I don't want to scare you, but it is), he's most likely having hallucinations, and you will need to take him to hospital for that. Hope it's the first one!!Katie...Show more

Claire Billegas: Uncontrollable Crying Toddler

Tana Dumoulin: I would wait another year before attempting preschool.A great resource:http://www.kidswithfoodallergies.org

Mayola Sylva: All very good ideas thus far. When my son was 3 and ! in headstart, I made a VERY brightly colored tags, had them laminated, and pinned them to his shirt every morning. You could also put them on a lanyard to put around his neck. Make sure that the teacher has an epi pen, if it's that severe of an allergy. I like the sign on the door idea and the numerous notes home to other parents. I do suggest that you wait another year to put your precious child into school, if possible.Good luck...Show more

Theresia Fashaw: A lot of preschools have adapted their menus to exclude peanut products and products that are manufactured in factories that use peanuts. If it were me, I would probably have several t shirts printed up with a food allergy alert. I know this doesn't sound to appealing but if your son's allergies are that severe, then you might want to consider it.I used to work in preschools and there is no way I would trust the judgment and education of the staff to protect him....Show more

Jed Mutone: My son has a mild ! peanut allergy but there was one kid in his preschool class that was an! aphalactic and the school requested that if you had given your kids dairy, eggs or peanuts at breakfast time, that you thoroughly wash their hands and face before bringing them to school. Every school in Australia that I know of, is peanut free. NO-ONE is allowed to take peanut butter sandwiches etc to school at all and I think it could possibly be a worldwide thing these days. Ring the school that you are going to be sending him to and find out their policies on the subject. Every year our school sends out an explainitory note at the beginning of the year to remind people what food allergies can do to kids with them and also to remind people of what not to send your kids to school with in their lunch boxes. And throughout the year they do write ups in the school newsletter to remind people all over again. My son also has no trouble telling people what he can and can't eat but it really helps to know that if no one takes peanut products, he won't be in any danger.Good! luck....Show more

Kris Otuafi: I am trying to find an accredited preschool for my child. Personal experience with these schools would be greatly appreciated! Tuition is not an issue.

Kirk Coolbeth: most pre schools and schools don't allow any foods in school now, but the best thing to do is speak to the schools , you'll probably find them really helpful , and if you are making his food snacks you can make sure he just has them, does he have to have any meds if he does ingest something he shouldn't,but i would say have a chat to your local support group, doctor and school. take care.

Bethanie Menden: From your description I would also tip on night terror (pavor nocturnus)...horrible thing to see but it will pass. Keep the room dark and quiet and stay there with your kid until they fall asleep or wake up.Alternately, could be headache or earache...

Theresia Fashaw: see a counselor for your irrational thoughts, take a CPR class, follow up with the denti! st, and feed the child the same food as the rest of the family in small! er portions.

Cassondra Vanholland: My 2 year old woke up screaming and crying uncontrollably. He's never quite woken up this way. I tried to lay down with him and tell him everything was alright and just stroke his hair but he kept pushing me away and brushing me off. He didn't want to be touched. So i let him get up and walk around for a little while and he just threw himself on the floor and is still crying and screaming and is now fully awake. I turned on the tv to his cartoon dvd and he wants nothing to do with it. Doesn't want his sippy cup or a snack...i'm not sure what to do or what happened. I suspected a nightmare or something, but it's going on 45 minutes of this. I thought maybe he had a charlie horse in his leg (i get them)...so i flexed his leg and let him walk around and he has no signs of one anyway cuz he's not holding his legs and they're working fine. I'm not sure what else to do or what is happening. he wants no cuddling or anything, and he's not on! e to throw tantrums like this.. ...Show more

Tricia Dossous: i use to wk in a preschool and we had a little boy with allergies as severe, if not worse. My son also has food allergies and we had to pull him out of preschool , my toddler is allergic to diary wheat peanuts and gluten.Any way when we looked after the little boy we didn't have peanuts in or at our centre, but we also provided the food at the centre. So may be look at centres that provide meals, the cooks will be able to wk around allergies. You must reinterate how important his allergies are, get a letter from your doctor explaining the allergy and treatments incase of an emergency. e.g. epi-pen. and sit with the centres director and speak to them about your childs issues and ask them to organise a room meeting with staff who will be in the room with your child, so you can explain your childs allergies to all staff involved in your childs care, Hope this helps....Show more

Vuelva a aplicar regularmente.

No intentes broncearte.

Do you think home schooling leaves kids at a social disadvantage?

Gabriel Realmuto: I see by the first answer education is not a reason to send my kids to public school. Try a spell check and learn some basic grammer.

Sonya Volcko: What are home schooled kids missing? Prom? High school football games? Or is it the drugs? Violence? Home school groups (especally the big ones) hold proms graduation ceremonies and dances. They hold all kind of social events. Also if prom is that important and the group doesn't have one then they could probably go to one at a local high school just by getting a date with a student.

Cassey Hollinghurst: Keri you can counter opinions with facts. Having the facts can change people opinions to line up more with the truth. I'm glad to hear that home school made you blossom socially. You are an example to how well home school can work.

Leticia Laiben: Homeschool is not as anti-social as a lot of people think. I was homeschooled from 6th grade all the way through high school. I went to several dif! ferent homeschools (they're for weekly instruction) and some offered more than others. Homeschool is becoming more and more popular, so they are actually putting classes together specifically for homeschool students. There are so many different ways to educate your child. It goes so much further than just home/public/private schools. There's also Independant Study, Unschooling, Title 1, Charter, Bible, Online, Hybrid, and a lot more. I don't see homeschooling as being anti-social at all. I don't understand why some people get so upset where homeschool is concerned. I guess it's because some parents just don't want to even bother to take their kids to the school. I've also seen kids who just get to learn what they want, and ignore anything they don't like. That's not really teaching them anything. It's just letting them do whatever they want. By the way, the opposite of homeschool is not public school, it's called Standard School. Homeschools can be public or private....Show! more

Garry Ohmen: Yes, because you deprive your child o! f learning how to cope with drama, friends, and furture life lessons that they will need to know.

Cedric Grimstead: I think home schooling definitely has it's advantages. But you need to think about whether or not its advantages out weigh the disadvantages for your family. I personally wouldn't home school my children because I think that our world is becoming more global. I think that kids need to learn about diversity early in life and be exposed to many different ideas and opinions. The world is getting more competitive, and to be successful one really needs to understand more than one's inner circle. I hope that makes sense. Also, I'm not a professional teacher. There are so many good public schools. The high school I went to did have its fair share of problems, but I learned so much from it. And some of the bad stuff that happened there made me a better person. A good high school can really prepare a student well for college and beyond. But I respect ! your opinions. If you want to home school go for it. Just make sure to listen to your kids. If they ever want to go to school, you should let them at least try it....Show more

Elfreda Grossen: yes, this is a social disadvantage. i will tell you truly what happened to my homeschooled cousins now that we are all adults. (i will add my aunt was a pentecostal, aka born again christian, they only grouped with christian home school groups, etc.)cousin #1- he's 33, an alcholic/drug addict. in and out of jail since the age of 15.cousin #2- 28- in a bad relationship with a women who is older and has 3 kids from another man. they have 2 kids. they fight verbally and physically. he abuses alchohal. works labor jobs.cousin #3-25. unemployment, cocaine addict lives with whoever will let him crash there and is always "looking for a job."cousin #4- got pregnant at 16, married the father who is verbally abusive. he's older, and already has another kid. she's a SAHM, he w! orks at mcdonald's. they are living with my aunt and uncle.so, i feel i! solation from a combo of homeschooling and an extreme religion were major contributing factors to how their adulthood played out....Show more

Marya Fehn: i think so, yes.

Alphonso Brake: see i could not send my kids to public school where i live so i have sent mine to a private school. it doesnt cost all that much more and its worth it for your own peace of mind!

Enriqueta Steffen: Yess, they miss out on alot not going to a school. Even though, sometimes, they get more education at home. Most of their social life is out of the school years.

Tory Clapper: I think it really depends on the child and their needs. Obviously you think your kids are doing fine homeschooled, and that's okay. I think that a benefit of public (or private) school is that the kids are being a little more independent w/o mom or dad around and are having maybe a few more opporunities to deal with social issues like what to do when someone isn't being nice to you, etc. Now, tha! t could be viewed as a disadvantage to public school, but in adult life you have to deal with all kinds of different people on a daily basis. Public schooling may provide more opportunity for that. I think homeschooling can work, if done the right way. Because I'm sure there is a wrong way!...Show more

Chris Wilczewski: No, I think they are actually at an advantage. Homeschooled children are interacting with lots of people of various ages and due to that contact seem more mature and self confident. They are not usually the target of childish taunts and do not look to their peers to mold themselves into what "all the other kids" do or their interests. They can explore what makes them happy as opposed to the likes/dislikes of their friends.Edit- Keri- That must have been horrible, I'm sorry you felt like an outsider. This is also a good example of what I was saying, kids who are being continually taunted are not in a productive environment and the kids taunting t! hem are not learning good "social skills"...Show more

Chauncey Wi! lliama: yes yes yes yes yes they do have a disadvantage. Know I don't want to sound like a jerk but if the kids don't get out socialize with others they can't really find their real self they will just pick up what their parents are with attitude, what they think is cool, and being able to talk to people. I knew this one kid I worked with he was home schooled that kid would lie about everything just so people would think he is cool and by the way he talked he would just come up with random things to say that didn't have anything to do with what we were talking about. I started letting him hang out with my friends and me playing paintball and stuff and I have noticed a big change in that boy what i'm trying to say is he don't sound like a nerd. I also got a girl I go to church with and it seems she can never find someone she likes to talk or hang out with she always seems like she has to have her parents around. please send your kids to school and let them get into trouble ! and learn life on their own....Show more

Lue Podewils: I was home schooled and didn't usually get to see other people except on rare occasions. It has had no effect on me socially. In fact I was in public school before I was home schooled and the children were so mean and horrible to me it affected me in very negative ways socially. (I have a cleft lip) It wasn't until after I got away from the public humiliation and forced hermitism that I finally opened up as an active and social member of society. BTW, You cant ask for someone opinion but threaten to counter an "opinion" with "facts". It makes people hate the home schooled community even more.........Show more

Whitney Saborido: Absolutely not. Home schooled kids that attend home school group functions have LOADS to do. Field trips, science and social studies fairs, park meets, special classes from time to time, dinners etc. Now, when I home schooled my daughter our group had SO MANY things going on that you j! ust had to pick and choose what best to attend. Aside from that, our da! ughter was (and still is- even though she goes to public school now) in dance, gymnastics and cheer leading every single week. We took our family to museums out of state, planned a Disney Trip during off season for half the price, went to water parks, went to DC smithsonian zoo and museums. She also had about 4 best friends that we planned weekly library, park or get together with. She played with family members friends. Gosh, the list just goes on. If anything, I think she had a much more social advantage when she was home schooled. As for proms, football teams, Valentines dances etc, our home school held those things for the older children each year. they also had a swim team at the YMCA and a Nature group through the college....Show more

Stanton Villao: No, I do not think that homeschooling, when done right, leaves kids at a social disadvantage. There were a lot of kids who had been home schooled at my college, and some were perfectly well adjusted and were totally ! "normal" but there were also some that had a lot of social and emotional difficulties. You seem to be doing the right thing for your kids, and with all of the things that they are involved with they will certainly get a good education both academically and socially. I can imagine how frustrating it is to have people constantly bombarding you with comments about how your kids probably live their lives locked in your house, but I have to say that the homeschooling community is also often very hostile to people who send their children to school. Just like all home schooled kids are not socially crippled, not all schooled kids are whores and drug addicts... and just like not all homeschooling parents keep their kids overly sheltered, not all schools are breeding grounds for violence and a poor education. Respect needs to go both ways....Show more

Russ Kiernan: I prefer the "social" education for my son(8 years old), I think this type of education makes the boy live in the! "real world", when you homeschool a kid, he lives in a "bubble" things! are different, subjects, assignments, schedules, are very different in a public or private school, a boy needs to know other kids, socialize with them, make friends(I'm not saying you boys don't have friends) but is a lot different, they have to go to the world, see things, try things, live lots of experiences(good and bad), experience builds the character, they may have problems when they go to university, not for knowledge but for social relationships(if the don't go to high school with other people). That will be a detrimental change in their life. ...Show more

Geraldo Mccalla: Mara you are right. I have no problem with sending kids to public schools. Ours how ever is horriable. I did send our kids there for a few years and it just wasn't the right fit for our faily. Home school is a personal choice and works for some families and public school is the best choice for others. Some home schoolers are like that but I try very hard not to be.

Rickey Vrieze: I k! new this kid in my old boy scout troop, he was home schooled so his parents could teach him creationism rather than evolution. He was very socially awkward, listening to him talk, one could tell that he wasn't used to talking to other kids his age. He was really sheltered and nerdy and few people in the troop actually liked him.

Lourie Mcroberts: Chris you think I lock them in a closet and never let them out? My kids are 10,6, and 2 and get into plenty of trouble all by themselves. I have no problem letting them do things for themselves or letting them out to play with neighborhood kids. They also play with kids in the home school group and take classes with other kids. There are all kinds of home school groups and activities for home school kids. Obviously you think kids have to be in a public school to make friends....Show more

Conrad Puleio: No Not at all. Home-schooling is not a bad thing. I was home schooled (I am now graduated) and I am in the top 10 stud! ents at the community college. I was able to start college 2 years earl! y with one of the highest test scores of all the students. True Home schooling is not being locked away in your home and never being out in public. though many ignorant people think that way it is not. I spent over 1/2 my time as a student out in the real world learning things first hand. I learned about banking by going to work with my grandmother (before she retired) who approved loans, she taught me how to see if people would "qualify" or not for different loans. I learned marine biology by going to the beach and spending days with marine biologists doing research projects, I got a unique education that I could never have gotten at a public school. tell me, how is being locked in a room with 30-40 other people, that are all your age or with-in a year of you, reading hypothetical stories about things and finding fake answers to go with those situations, and never really doing anything productive, how is that "real world" experience? I had more "real world experience" when! I was ten than most kids have when they graduate. Socially I have never been hurt, check my face-book page. I don't add anyone I don't know and I have over 270 friends. I did lots of activities with home school groups, 4-H, Church, Camps (The Wilds and Northland. if you want info contact me), and the community college. Home-schooling has so many advantages to public school. I would have shot myself had I gone to one. so what are we missing... school shootings, drinking, smoking, weed, other forms of drugs, disrespect for teachers and adults (Home-schooled kids KNOW how to respect others), and a world of hurt. I don't think that kids really need that junk. some people do, but I don't. ...Show more

Kimberlee Bowdish: First, we are a Homeschooling family and our daughter spends a lot of time with other people (adults and children), but having said that I know some other HS families where the kids don't go out and spend much time with other children. Our daughter is the y! oungest of 5 children - the others are adults and are now all married, ! but she belongs to a HS group who meet weekly, she is an active Girl Guide every Monday, she has Voice lessons on Tuesdays, Choir on Wednesday, Irish Dancing on Thursdays, Band practice on Saturday mornings, Sunday School on Sunday mornings - so she sees lots of kids.We also deliver Meals-on-Wheels to Seniors and the disabled in our community, so she has interaction with many different people of all ages.Last year we visited England and Norway for a month, a couple of years before that we went to Holland for 3 weeks. We are planning a trip to Austrialia in 2009, so she is well travelled, well spoken, well mannered, confident & capable and has a great sense of humour. She has also never been bullied in the school yard, teased on the school bus, nor has she ever had a teacher who didn't like her, she also never had the stress of failing a test, because we don't move on to the next task until I know she has mastered the earlier one.We too, get people saying "It's nice that she! gets to go out now and again" as if we keep her locked in the basement. The whole world is her classroom, she learns all day, every day - and it is often about a subject that she is interested in.At the moment she is interested in Horses, so this year when we study Science we may study Equine Physiology and Anatomy, we may go Horse Riding locally and she can ask lots of questions about horse behaviour and horse care. We have already learned a lot about Horse Breeding and Genetics. She is currently sketching and drawing pictures of horses. So, we "Homeschool", but in fact we are hardly ever "home"....Show more

The Extent of Student Cheating in Higher Education?

Pei Heatherly: I have seen students trying to text message test answers over their cell phones. I have also seen them program formulas into their graphing calculators during math exams. I know a lot of students who have been busted for plagiarizing on essays because they copied stuff from the Internet. I think the extent of cheating has been relatively unchanged, but students are just finding new ways to cheat with the increase of technology.

Donnell Nocella: it may be more of a problem because people especially young adults are more familiar with all the new technology coming out and they're getting a hold of it faster than these university but sooner or later the schools will catch up with the students so it just may decrease. There will always be ways around the system.

Financial Aid Year 2009-2010?

Francis Stickle: It takes a very long time! Seriously, just wait till your school year almost starts and go to your college's financial aid office.

Ira Porietis: I believe the 2cnd F.C Check will be comming this Friday, March 19, 2010.

Best toys and treats for teething puppy's? PLUS VACCINATION?!!!?

Best toys and treats for teething puppy's? PLUS VACCINATION?!!!?

answers 0:pretty self explanatory....i was just wondering if you can give me a lot of suggestions because she doesnt like the things we got her...I think they're either too soft or too hard so thanks for the help, 🙂 What vaccinations do I have to get for her before we can I can take her to the petstores? And also does anyone know of a good vet in the Fresno County area? thanx...Show moreanswers 1:Here are some good teething toys:-nylabone (with the soft dental blue thing in the middle)-Greenies (dental chews)-Loofa Dog-TireToy-Giant Tennis Ball with ropes on the end-For Pet's Sake brand (They have some really good teething and tugtoys)I don't live in the Fresno County area, so I wouldn't know of any good vets, but here are some things to look for ina good vet:-Has had plenty of experience in the veterinar! y career-Has reasonable prices-Is gentle with the animals-Doesn't want to rush through-He listens to you (unlike a few vets I know, I don't take my pets to them anymore)-He explains what the procedure will be like, what the vaccines are called, or if it's routine procedure or rare procedureHere are the shots he will need:-DHLLP, Corona, Rabies,The DHLLP shot is protection against 5 viruses-Parvovirous-Hepatitis-Distemper-Parainfluenza-LeptospirosisGood Luck!...answers 2:My puppy loves the Nyla bones. I also bought him a chew toy which has hard and soft parts which he loves to chew on. Give him a variety and let him pick.answers 3:Nylabones are probably the best thing for both toys and chewing. You could also try the kong toys, you can fill them with puppy peanut butter, and they'll lick em for hours. You don't really want to take her to the pet stores until she's at least had her 6 month shots, not that people don't do it...but you shouldn't....answers 4:as long as the pup! py has no adult teeth, you can give her meatless raw knucle bo! nes. you can get it from a butcher or grocery store, then freeze it. give it to your pup to chew on for about an hour a day whenever she needs to calm down the most, then stick it in the freezer again. OR you can get bully sticks at the petstore, these are expensive though and if you have a powerchewer dog they won't last that long. but bully sticks are 100% safe for puppies and dogs. theyre dehydrated bull meat.as for toys, my dogs show no interest in nyla bones and could swallow them so those are out. you can try this site: planetdog.comas for vaccinations, your dog will need to see a vet soon because she has to be dewormed (all puppies are born with worms from the mother's placenta, and need worming treatments) and get standard vaccines. after the first year of vaccines, you can get a titer test done to check whether or not she needs to be revaccinated again (other than for rabies which is every year for the first 2, then every 3 years)there's a lot of debate about whethe! r dogs need some vaccines or not...like bordetella (kennel cough) is given if your dog is around other dogs (like a dog park or just petco) BUT there's some question as to whether or not it even works good. it will depend on whether your area is at risk or not. like my area has high incidences of lyme disease, so i vaccinate for that.check out dogster.com to find a vet in your area!HTH....

¿Funciona?
