Eventually, I auditioned and later taught at berklee. So everything is possible and ALL this, without any schooling. I learnt to read, write and arrange by myself through books.Start with simple chords and when you know them, learn the scales that go with them. If you ever want to solo and create leads or riffs, at least you will know what scale goes with what cords.Learn your major scales because they will help you when you want to elarn minor scales since they both relate to each other....Show more

Rose Krouse: I'm like you, I taught myself to play guitar, but I had some background in music theory which made things much eas! ier and to pick up on how to play songs. If you can take some lessons, you can learn quicker. But if you teach yourself learn how to read Tabs. It makes things easier if you wanna learn more difficult songs. Get use to basic chords like G, Em, D, C, etc. Once you get the hang of it you can branch out in bar chords and power chords.
